Site Description: The Vince Lombardi Marsh is a wetland restoration site created to mitigate for the permitted filling of approximately 15 acres of Spartina alterniflora marsh associated with the construction of Interchange 13A on the New Jersey Turnpike. Prior to mitigation, the site had been filled and supported a monoculture of common reed (Phragmites australis). The site was restored in 1983, and included the removal of previously placed dredged material and replanting of native vegetation. Currently, the site is dominated by Phragmites and open water/mudflat.
