HMDC 1987 - 1988 Fisheries Resource Inventory Sampling Location Map

From February 1987 to December 1988 the Hackensack Meadowlands Development Commission (now known as the New Jersey Meadowlands Commission) performed a fisheries resource inventory of the Hackensack River and five of its tributaries within the boundaries of the Hackensack Meadowlands District. Twenty-one regular sampling locations were established and sampled using the following four gear types: a 16-foot otter trawl (nine locations), an Indiana trap net (six locations), a 200-foot long by eight-foot high experimental sinking gill net (three locations), and a 60-foot long by six-foot high bag seine (three locations). During the first year of the study (February 1987 to January 1988) most locations were sampled monthly, while during the second year (February 1988 to December 1988) locations were sampled quarterly. During August 1987, two additional trap net locations were established in Berry's Creek in order to collect tissue samples for laboratory analysis. These additional two locations were fished irregularly from August 1987 until June 1988.

Of the regular 21 sampling locations, 15 were located on the main stem of the Hackensack River (GN1, S1, TN1, T1, T2, GN2, T3, TN3, S2, T4, TN4, S4, TN5, T5, and TN6), two were located in Sawmill Creek (T6 and TN2), and one each was located in Berry's Creek Canal (T7), Mill Creek (T8), Cromakill Creek (T9), and Overpeck Creek (GN3).
