Instruments
MERI analytical laboratory researchers are taking advantage of new, modern analytical instruments including GC/MSD, GC/ECD/DIF, AA and Ion Chromatography. The main function of laboratory is to support MERI's ongoing and MERI-sponsored project.
Description: Analyze Metals- Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) determines the presence of metals in liquid samples. Metals include Fe, Cu, Al, Pb, Ca, Zn, Cd and many more. Typical concentrations range in the low mg/L range.
Description: Analyze Ion Species (Anion and Cation)- This system allows analyzing in a single run from very small amount of the sample (less than 1 ml) up to 7 anions (fluoride, chloride, nitrite, bromide, nitrate, phosphate and sulfate) or up to 8 cations (lithium, sodium, ammonium, potassium, magnesium, calcium, barium, strontium).
Description: Analyze Volatile and Semivolatile Organic compounds- GC/MSD system can provide capabilities to confirm unknown compounds from other detectors including FID and ECD.
Description: Analyze Chlorinated Organic compounds- Flame ionization detector (FID) has detects most organic compounds with good sensitivity, but ECD is usually used to quantify pesticides and PCBs because it has extremely sensitive for thse haloganated compounds.
Description: Sample preparation by clean up for removing matrix co extractives includes large and medium molecular weight materials from environmental samples.
Description: Sample preparation for the metal from sediment sample.
Description: Screen test and simple qualification for Organic/Inorganics.
